Facelift Before & Afters

WHAT IS A FACELIFT?

The face undergoes many changes with time, weight fluctuations, and with exposure to the environment.

YOUTHFUL VOLUME AND CONTOUR

What are the Benefits of a Facelift?

There are numerous procedures available to rejuvenate the face, cheeks, jowls, and neck. Despite the name used, the goal remains the same: to restore the youthful appearance of the face and neck by:

  • Lifting skin and deeper tissue that has begun to sag
  • Smoothing wrinkles, lines, and bands
  • Restoring volume, tone, and contour

YOUR BEAUTIFUL AESTHETIC

Your Facelift Procedure

Dr. Shifrin's approach to a facelift is governed by several aspects, including your anatomy and personal goals, the extent of the procedure (mini vs. standard), and depending on if another operation is being performed concurrently.

Facelifts are normally performed under general anesthesia. Local anesthetic with sedation may be used in some circumstances. Once the initial incisions are made, the skin is removed from the underlying connective tissue and muscles. This allows the cosmetic surgeon to correct deeper face tissues, reduce jowls, and create a more substantial skin base. The excess skin is then removed, and the remaining skin is carefully placed over the newly regenerated facial tissues, resulting in a smoother, more youthful shape without over-tightening the skin.

LOOK HEALTHIER

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FACELIFT?

Dr. Shifrin reviews your medical history, including lifestyle decisions, and does a physical exam at your initial visit. In general, you’re an ideal candidate for a facelift if you:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Are a nonsmoker
  • Have reasonable expectations for the outcome
  • Have enough skin elasticity
  • Recognize the recovery process

You must also realize that a facelift isn’t a long-term answer to aging. You will continue to mature and may require another operation or touch-up procedures in the future to preserve your glowing complexion.

Facelift Recovery

A facelift is a complicated treatment that requires extraordinary surgical expertise, although most patients recover quickly.

Depending on the type of facelift procedure, the recovery time may vary from one to four weeks. Following a traditional procedure, our Chicago facelift patients often return to normal daily activities in approximately two weeks (strenuous activity requires about four weeks). These periods are typically significantly shorter after a small facelift. Because each patient recovers differently, your cosmetic surgeon will provide specific guidelines for aftercare and return to activities.

Facelift Results

The complete results of a facelift should be visible after four weeks.

Bruising and swelling may still be apparent, but solely to the specific sufferer. Numbness and stiffness may persist, but they should not be visible. Vigorous activity, such as exercise, can be continued during this time. Scars following a facelift might take up to a year to diminish, depending on the individual. Tightness and numbness may remain throughout this period, but they should not interfere with normal activities.
